Eicher Motors (EICHERMOT), a part of the Eicher group, is a significant player in the Indian automobile industry and is involved in the design, manufacture and marketing of commercial vehicles, motorcycles (Royal Enfield) and components as well as providing engineering solutions. The company was incorporated on Oct. 14, 1982.
The company offers fully built up trucks ranging from 6T to 25T (Eicher 10.50 to Eicher Jumbo 20.16), buses (Eicher Skyline to Eicher Skyline CNG), and chassis (Eicher 10.75 F bus chassis to Eicher 11.10 K bus chassis). The successful E2 range of LCVs has increased the company`s market share in the 7 to 11 ton LCV segment from 30% to 35%. The company will enter the all-luxury bus segment by launching two models in 2007. It recently received an order to supply 225 trucks to DRS Logistics. In technical and financial collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation of Japan, the manufacturing facility in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh has a capacity of 20,000 vehicles per annum.
The motorcycle segment involves the Royal Enfield range of Bullet motorcycles. Presently, Royal Enfield produces six different models ranging from 300cc to 600cc.All the products are manufactured indigenously in its manufacturing plant in Chennai, which has an annual installed capacity of manufacturing 39,000 motorcycles. The company also manufactures a complete range of automotive gears in Thane, Maharashtra. Product range includes spiral bevels, straight bevels and transmission gears with capacities of 324,000, 432,000 and 336,000 units respectively.
The company acquired 100% equity shares of Hoff and Associates, Plymouth, Michigan, USA along with its two 100% owned subsidiaries in Beijing and Shanghai, China. These provide engineering solutions for aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, medical, marine and plastics industries.
