Hyderabad Industries (HYDIND), the flagship company of the C.K. Birla group of companies, is a manufacturer of sheets, panels and several other products for the building industry. It was incorporated in 1946.
The company business is classified into the two segments of building products and others. The building products segments includes fiber cement sheets (asbestos and non-asbestos), autoclaved aerated concrete blocks (light bricks), aerocon panels, and fiber cement boards. The main product is fiber cement sheets, which accounts for around 87% of company sales. The others segment includes thermal insulation products, jointings and other products for industries.
The 11 manufacturing units are spread across the country making the company the largest producer of fiber cement sheets in the country with a production capability of about 700,000 TPA. The company has decided to set up a new plant with an initial capacity of 125,000 MTPA in Orissa, which is expected to be commissioned in the second half of FY08. The company has promoted Nigerian Asbestos Industries with the Nigerian government to make AC sheets, India Gypsum with BPB Industries Plc, UK to make gypsum boards, and Malabar Building Products with the Kerala government to make AC sheets.
Marketed under the brand names Charminar, Aerocool, Hysil across the country, the products find use in industrial sheds, warehouses, housing, industrial complexes, ceilings and air cooling ducts among other applications.
