Kopran (KOPRAN) is a healthcare company manufacturing pharmaceutical formulations and over-the-counter (OTC) natural products. It was incorporated on April 26, 1958 as a private limited company, converted into a public limited company on Aug. 24, 1984, and got its current name on Aug. 22, 1990.
The company operates through its strategic business units. The finished dosage forms unit has a range of more than 100 dosage forms including tablets, capsules, liquids and injectables. The manufacturing facilities for penicillin and non-penicillin products are located in Khopoli, Maharashtra, approved by MHRA, UK and MCC, South Africa. The API unit manufactures antibiotics including sterile cephalosporins and erythromycin derivatives, and specialty products including macrolides and cardiovascular range. Atenolol (COS) and non-sterile cephalosporin have the approval of EDQM.
The research and development unit operates through Kopran Research Laboratories (a 100% subsidiary). The R&D unit is involved in drug discovery, polymer technology, and synthesis of new molecules and is recognized by DSIR, Government of India. The company has filed about 35 product and process patents internationally and in India. The company intends to license out its molecules KNC-6 (anti-ulcerant) and KNC-1206 (bowel regulator) to other pharmaceutical companies and also seek collaboration for developing new molecules on its platform technology. The OTC natural products unit offers the Smyle range of natural products like cough & sore throat reliever, mouth ulcer gel, throat drops, inhaler, vapour & rub, toothpaste, and baby soap and powder.
Kopran has alliances and joint ventures with Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries (Africa), Dubai Investment Corporation (Dubai), and Gujarat Themis Biosyn. Kopran and exports dosage forms and APIs to Africa, Central America, Asia and Europe. Its registered office is located at Parijat House, 1076, Dr. E. Moses Road, Worli, Mumbai-400018. |
