S A L Steel was incorporated on Nov. 6, 2003 as a private limited company by the Shah Alloys group in order to manufacture sponge iron and ferro alloys . The company manufactures, alters, converts, processes, treats, cuts, extrudes, mills, casts, forges and rolls iron and steel products. The company started its commercial production of sponge iron and ferro alloys on October 11, 2005. It also commenced its Rolling mills and Captive power project on the same day. The capacity of Captive power is 40MW, which reduces the production cost of Ferro Alloys. This company was set up as a backward integration project to meet the requirement of its promoter company for Ferro Alloys and sponge iron. The corporate office of the company is situated at Ahmedabad in Gujarat and its plant is located at Bharapar in Gujarat. As on March 2006 , the company`s installed capacity was sponge iron- 180000 MT; ferro alloys-61890 MT; Rolling mill-25000 MT.
