Sarda Energy & Minerals (SARDAEN), incorporated on Jun. 23, 1973, is an integrated steel plant. Earlier known as Raipur Alloys & Steel, it got its present name on Aug. 2, 2007. The company is part of the Sarda group, and Chhattisgarh Investments, Parvatiya Power, Chhattisgarh Hydro Power, and Madhya Bharat Power Corporation are other group companies.
The company produces sponge iron, ferro alloys, steel ingots, steel billets, steel TMT bars and fly ash bricks. The manufacturing plant of the company is located at Raipur in Chhattisgarh with installed capacities of 100,000 TPA ferro manganese and silico manganese, 200,000 TPA billets, 40,000 TPA ingots, 210,000 TPA sponge iron.
A 50 MW thermal power plant for captive use is being put up. In the first phase, the company has installed one fluidized bed coal boiler of 90 tons per hour sufficient to generate 20 MW of power. It has installed waste heat recovery boilers to tap waste gases from the ferro alloy and sponge iron plants and use the steam generated out of the WHRB boiler as input for the power plant. Surplus power is sold to the state government grid as per the power purchase agreement. It is in the process of commissioning additionally 6x20 MW thermal power plants at Siltara in Chhattisgarh. The total current power capacity is 60 MW.
The company has recently acquired iron ore mines in the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh with an estimated reserve of about 8 million tons of ore, coal mining rights over a 360-hectare stretch with an estimated reserve of 100 million tons of surface mining coal in Chhattisgarh; manganese ore mines at Goa with a production capacity of 3,000 tons per annum. Presently, the manganese ore requirement is being met through supplies from Manganese Ore India.
The domestic client list includes SAIL, Vizag Steel, Tata Steel, HCC, Kalyani, Sadbhav Engineering, Enercon India, and Shah Alloys among others. To boost up its international business, the company has recently set up a company at Hong Kong to have a presence in the energy, minerals and metals space. The international client list includes Mitsui & Co., Hanwa, Masteel, Amsteel Mills SDN BHD, KTC Korea Co., Baosteel, and Qadbros Carbotrade to name a few.
