SEL Manufacturing Company (SELMCL) is a vertically-integrated textile company manufacturing and exporting cotton yarns, combed yarns, knitted fabrics and knitted garments. Incorporated as a public limited company called Saluja Exim on May 8, 2000, the company got its current name in 2003. The chairman, R.S. Saluja, promoted the R.S. Saluja group in 1969. In 2005, the group business was consolidated into the company. The company became a partner of SE Exports in 2005. Amalgamation of Saluja Processors and Saluja Fabrics with the company took place in 2006. The company also acquired the 100% EOU spinning unit of Saluja Cotex and assets and property of Mangla Cotex in 2006.
The company manufactures and exports all types of knitted garments and the main products include t-shirts, polo shirts, sweat shirts, boxer shorts, thermals, girls tops, etc. A part of the yarn produced from the spinning units is consumed for the company`s knitting operations and the balance is sold in both the domestic and overseas markets. Similarly, the knitted fabric is used for knitted garment manufacturing and also sold in local markets. Production facilities are located in Ludhiana, Punjab and Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. To cater to export markets, the company has representative offices in Russia and Dubai. The company operates with a consolidated capacity to manufacture 4.5 million garment pieces per annum. Capacities in cotton and combed yarn and fabric knitting are approximately 29,856 spindles (6,516 tons yarns per annum) and 1,950 tons of fabric knitting per annum respectively.
In 2007, it bagged a major export order for readymade garments to the extent of USD 18 million. It has increased its stake to 99% in Kudu Industries, Ludhiana, which has dyeing capacity of 4,500 TPA in fabric and 3,000 TPA in yarn. Further the firm also has flat bed printing, rotary printing and mercerizing capacities of 2,400 TPA. Early in 2008, the company acquired the manufacturing facilities of Preet Hosiery Exports, Ludhiana . The unit has an installed capacity of 4.5 million pieces per annum of readymade garments and caters to top end buyers of Europe and USA.
