Welspun India (WELSPUNIND), the flagship company of the Welspun Group, is engaged in manufacturing terry towels and bed linen. It was incorporated on Jan. 17, 1985 as a private limited company, went public in 1991 and got its current name on Oct. 12, 1995.
The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified company manufactures terry towels and has forayed into bed linen with fully-integrated manufacturing facilities in Anjar and Vapi. It is the largest manufacturer of terry towels in Asia and fourth largest in the world. Capacity expansion is taking place with phase-I of the greenfield plant in Anjar commissioned in FY06 and phase-II expected to become operational by FY07-FY08. The total terry towel capacity would increase to 34,000 TPA, spinning capacity to 87,500 spindles, and bed linen capacity to 45 million meters per annum. In early 2007, the company acquired 85% interest in CHT Holdings, the ultimate holding company of UK`s leading towel brand Christy. This acquisition gives the company access to the EU market, the second largest home textiles market in the world. It has also planned a decorative bedding unit in Mexico with a capacity of 1.04 million beddings per annum.
Recent awards include being ranked 39th in the India Top 100 Corporates 2007 by Standard & Poor`s & CRISIL in March 2007. The supplies to major retailers in the EU and the US like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, J.C. Penney, BB& B, Target, and others. It has 65% of its revenues coming from exports mainly to the US markets and 5% is covered by the European markets. The company has planned to increase the total number of Spaces retail stores to 70 by FY07.

Financials
The company disclosed fall of 77.33% in standalone net profit on y-o-y basis to Rs 46.86 million, while total income climbed 2.00% y-o-y basis to Rs 5.05 billion for the quarter ended December 2010. |
