Market will not be bed of Roses like it used to be...

SEBI announces new P-Note Policy

·      Date of calculation of AUC will be Sept 30

·      Sub accounts not to be allowed to issue PNs

·      PNs can't be issued with ODIs as underlying

·      FIIs shall not issue P-notes as underlying as derivatives has been approved

·      Current position to be wound up within 18 months

·      Board has decided further issuance of P-notes by sub accounts of FIIs to be discontinued with immediate effect

·      Until a final decision is taken on their being FIIs, sub accounts can continue as normal

 

What does it mean to a small investors like us:

1)     In the next few weeks/months fresh money into Indian market would be difficult and not as easy as it was earlier

2)     IPOs will not be get the hot money as they used to get earlier and will not be subscribed the number of times they used to be. Also the listing gains will not be as they used to be since the demand will be lower now

 

Bottom line:

Long Term - Positive; Short Term - Down, Consolidation & definitely Volatile

 

One does not have to jump tomorrow morning to start buying if (mind you IF) the market crashes. I believe we should have a window of a month or so when the market could be flaccid and we can do the cherry picking in this time. Also note that the holiday season (Christmas/New Year) and Financial year ending for the US (31^st Dec) is approaching, hence incoming foreign funds could be low.

 

Next milestone to watch:

1)     RBI Credit Policy on 30th Oct - Interesting for us

2)     US FED meet on 31st Oct - Could have some minor positive impact on us
