(BIHARCAU) is a leading chlor alkali company in India. The company was co-promoted in 1976 by the Aditya Birla group and BSIDC. It was commissioned and started commercial production in 1984. It became a subsidiary of Hindalco (an Aditya Birla group company) in 2003. The managing director of the company is S.S. Gupta. The company manufactures products like caustic soda lye (225 TPD), liquid chlorine (200 TPD), hydrochloric acid (130 TPD), sodium hypo chlorite (3 TPD), compressed hydrogen gas (150,000 nm3/day) and aluminum chloride (30 TPD). The plant is located at Garhwa Road, Palamau district, Jharkhand. It has set up the latest energy efficient & environment friendly membrane cell technology to increase capacity to 225 TPD. The capacity is to increase further to 300 TPD. Caustic soda has applications in pulp and paper, textiles, petroleum products, ..etc; hydrocloric acid has applications in steel industry, de-mineralization, ..etc.; sodium hypochlorite is used as a bleaching and oxidizing agent, as a disinfectant, in manufacture of medicines, ..etc; aluminum chloride is used as catalyst. The company has a state-of-the-art 30 MW captive power plant and has implemented SAP R/3 and People Soft system. It is ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18000:1999 and SA-8000:2001 certified. The company has won many awards like the IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Certificate of Merit for 2005 and 2006, Best Responsible Care Committed Company award by Indian Chemical Council for 2004-2005. The client list includes NTPC, SAIL, Indo Gulf, GAIL, SRF, Tata, Hindustan Lever, Indian Oil Corporation, IFFCO, BALCO, and many more. The registered office is at Garhwa Road, P.O. Rehla-822124, Palamau district, Jharkhand. Financials The company reported rise of 121.57% in standalone net profit on y-o-y basis to Rs 87.30 million, while total income increased 23.03% y-o-y basis to Rs 587.74 million for the quarter ended December 2010.
