Kesoram Industries Limited Company Profile

Kesoram Industries (KESORAMIND), part of the B.K. Birla group, is a well-diversified company in the fields of cement, tyres, rayon yarn, transparent paper, spun pipes and chemicals. It was incorporated on Oct. 18, 1919 as Kesoram Cotton Mills and got its current name on Jul. 09, 1986. The company manufactures cement, automobile tyres and tubes, viscose filament yarn and transparent paper, heavy chemicals, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, spun pipes and refractories. Kesoram Rayon, a division of the company, has an integrated process plant in Nayasarai (West Bengal) with installed capacities of 6,500 MTPA of rayon yarn, 3,600 MTPA of cellophane paper, 3,600 MTPA of carbon-di-sulphide, and 36,500 MTPA of sulphuric acid. The division is ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified. The cast iron spun pipes and fittings plant in Bansberia (West Bengal) has a production capacity of 45,000 MTPA. The cement manufacturing facilities called Kesoram Cement and Vasavdatta Cement in Basantnagar (Andhra Pradesh) and Sedam, (Karnataka) respectively have a combined manufacturing capacity of 4.55 million tons per annum with an additional 1.65 tons planned capacity by FY09 and captive power generation plants of 15 MW each. The tyre division Birla Tyres at Balasore (Orissa) is established in collaboration with Pirelli (UK), subsidiary of the Pirelli group of Italy. The Balasore capacity will increase from the present 194 TPD to 322 TPD by FY08. A 250 TPD Greenfield tyre project in Uttaranchal will be completed by FY09. The chemical manufacturing unit in Kharda (West Bengal) has manufacturing capacities of 12,410 MTPA of caustic soda lye, 8,200 MTPA of sodium hypochlorite, 18,700 MTPA of sulphuric acid and 1,620,000 m3 of purified hydrogen gas.
