Sun TV Network Limited Company Profile

Formerly known as Sun TV, Sun TV Network (SUNTV) was incorporated on December 18, 1985 as a private company and became public on December 2005. The company got its current name after the merger with Gemini and Udaya on April 24, 2007. SUNTV is a television broadcasting company based in South India and Kalanithi Maran is the chairman and managing director of the company. The SunTV Network originally began as a Tamil satellite channel. It has expanded with other channels in other languages including Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The channels offered are SunTV, KTV, Sun Music, Sun News, Chutti TV, SuryaTV, GeminiTV, Teja News, Gemini News, Gemini Music, Gemini Cable Vision, UdayaTV, Udaya Movies, Udaya News, etc. The Sun TV Network also has its own earth station which beams programs directly to the satellite. The company became a pay channel with effect from Dec. 2, 2006. It has a long term agreement with Nimbus for broadcasting rights of cricket matches upto 2010 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Starting with Suryam, Tamil`s first private FM stations from Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli, the company with its subsidiaries Kal Radio and South Asia FM now operates 25 FM stations from Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati, Madurai, Tuticorin, Lucknow, Bhopal, Pondicherry, Kozhikode (Calicut), Indore, Vijayawada, Varanasi, Tiruchy, Rajahmundry, Kanpur, Thiruvananthapuram Thrissur and Mangalore. The company holds licenses for 45 FM radio stations across India. The SunTV Network is available in Asia, South Africa, Australia, Europe and USA. The company has hiked its advertisement rates by 5% to 27% with effect from January 2007. The corporate and registered office is located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
