Paramount Communications (PARACOM) is engaged in manufacturing power and communication cables. It was set up in 1978 and became a public limited company on Sep. 5, 1994.
The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified company manufactures LT power, aerial bunched cables, battery and energy cables, jelly-filled telecom cables and optical fiber cables. It supplies a variety of specialized cables and wires for diversified use and offers a comprehensive range of cables needed by the telecommunication, space research, thermal and nuclear power plants, railways, petrochemicals, fertilizers, steel, electronics and other core sectors. It is the single largest supplier of railway axle and signaling cables to the Indian Railways.
The two manufacturing units are located in the Dharuhera district of Haryana and Alwar district of Rajasthan with installed capacities of 26,500 Km power cables, 5,299,000 jell-filled telecommunication cables, and 20,000 Km optical fiber cables as on Mar. 31, 2007. The plants are built using swing technologies which enable operations throughout the year with optimum capacity by switching between power and telecom cables. The second phase of capex plans for which it raised USD 27 million through a foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) is expected to be completed by September 2007. The third phase will commence shortly after for which land has been identified.
The clientele list includes BHEL, NTPC, Alstom, ABB, and L&T in the power space. In the Government sector, the company caters to IRCON, ISRO, Indian railways, defense and department of atomic energy. Telecom clients include BSNL and MTNL. In September 2007, it acquired AEI Cables, a leading global cable solutions provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of the international electronic sensors and components group TT Electronics plc, listed on The London Stock Exchange. Paramount Gulf FZE is a subsidiary in UAE.
