Gujarat Glass (GUJGLASS) is a leading manufacturer of glass packaging for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. In 1998, Gujarat Glass was formed as an independent subsidiary of Nicholas Piramal, with 54% of the shareholding with Nicholas Piramal and 46% held by a consortium of international investors. It was converted into a public limited company with the present name on March 6, 2007. It is part of Piramal Enterprises, which has a turnover of Rs 15 billion and is a dynamic group of companies engaged in the core businesses of pharmaceutical healthcare, textiles, glass packaging and engineering and emerging businesses of information technology and lifestyle plazas for shopping and entertainment..
The products offered for the pharmaceutical industries include soda lime USP Type lll amber and flint bottles, borosilicate USP Type l amber and flint vials, and Soda lime USP Type lll flint vials; OFC for cosmetics and toiletries and stationeries. It has plants in Kosamba, Jambusar and Ceylon producing 4 million containers per day, 230 TPD pharma amber, and 100 TPD soda lime flint. The company maintains a leadership position in the domestic flaconnage market for pharmaceutical applications and has made significant inroads in the cosmetics and perfumery (C&P) segments.
The subsidiaries include Ceylon Glass Company; GG USA Inc.; Piramal Glass (UK); and Gujarat Glass International Inc. with its two subsidiaries GGI Flat River LLC and GGI Willliamstown LLC. Continued focus on the export market resulted in exports increasing by almost 44% in FY07. Significant developments on the marketing front happened in the European and American markets, which offered great opportunities for growth in these regions.
